When you go out to eat does your servers appearance matter to you?

I work in a restaurant, its not classy or formal just a bar and grill-- Personally, i would never go to work looking like i just woke up, but some people do. However my question is really regarding the fact that they just hired a girl that looks like shes done meth the past couple months. Her teeth are green or missing, hair always a mess, eyes sunken in and its just not attractive. If you went out- how much does appearance matter, would you tip less? or more so she could go brush her teeth?

or if the looked like they just woke up- does that matter??

Thanks for you input!!!!

I would much rather my food be served by someone that is clean, and well groomed. I would not like the green teeth part.
Reply:I would be afraid to eat my food after seeing an unpleasant looking server. I don't think that I would tip them more or less due to their looks, but I would re-think going back to that restaurant or bar. This is a job, and the server should look like they care and want the job.
Reply:well if my server makes a bad impression on me im gonna feel like my order is messed up
Reply:I know that this sounds judgmental but if I see someone like that cooking my food or serving my food I have been known to cancel an order. Water and soap are cheap and so are toothpaste/brush. One time we were traveling and I was at a waffle house, this guy that was cooking our breakfast had more underneath his fingernails than the grill had. I cancelled our order and left. It's gross.
Reply:Yes, it matters a lot and all the reasons above me are good and what I also believe.
Reply:it matters a lot, it's not case of how much I tip, I just wouldn't go back to the restaurant if your description is accurate
Reply:Personal apperance does matter to me especially if it is dealing with food. If she doesn't brush her teeth she doesn't wash those hands either. I would leave so a tip is not in question.
Reply:I'd most definitely like to be serve by somebody that is clean, and well groomed. And I don't think I would like green teeth...
Reply:as long as her hands are clean, I am not going to be kissing her......and hopefully her breath doesn't stink!
Reply:I'd be very worried about eating in a restaurant that hired staff that looked like that. If they don't care what their servers look like,( the people who are the FACE of the restaurant after all) then I dread to think whats going on in the kitchen and the other parts of the restaurant that I can't see.
Reply:I not only care about how they look, I care about the cleanness of the restaurant itself...You can go to the Internet and find out which restaurants in your town have failed or passed inspection...I found our favorite Chinese Resturant had failed inspection several times in a row. Good to know...we found another place.
Reply:absolutely!! The waitstaff's appearance is very important. I don't want someone touching my food with dirty fingernails or nasty hair. As far as her teeth, yes they should be brushed and someone should tell her... nicely though.

You know if she was a drug addict, maybe now she is trying to better herself......??? Still shouldn't put the rest of us at risk for diseases. If i was truely repulsed, I would ask for a new server.
Reply:i don't care as long as they provide good service and look presentable
Reply:Yes it does! Why would anyone want someone handling food if they dont look clean? If she looks that bad, she probably is unclean. I probably wouldnt eat in her section.
Reply:Yes, their appearance matters a great deal to me. And if they had green teeth, trust me, I would get up and leave the place immediately. Anyone serving food should always look immaculate!
Reply:appearance does matter. Im pretty sure I would not order in the first place and leave I have done it before and to never go back
Reply:i think appearance matters on any customer service job especially food because i would personally lose my appetite if something gross looking came to serve me.
Reply:The server's appearance does make an impression on me -- although if he or she looks pretty ordinary that impression is probably largely subliminal.

I would not like to be served by someone who looks like the person you describe!
Reply:Appearance counts with me, too. She sounds like a meth abuser or someone who is sick or anorexic. Even if she is homeless, she could brush her teeth in their restroom. I'd talk to the manager.

If it were just missing teeth, that wouldn't matter. My tip would be the same.
