I have a couple on the same subject PLEASE read the whole thing?

My son is wanting a grill (the teeth grillz that is)before school starts. I offered to look into it but really don't know of any health risk it could cause. He is a clean boy brushes his teeth regular but will it cause his teeth to rot having something over them all day?

Question two is it safe to eat with the grill in I don't want to spend the money for him to take it out to eat and lose it or it get stolen?

And last but not least should it be stainless steel or sterling silver which is more durable?

Thank you ahead of time.

I have a couple on the same subject PLEASE read the whole thing?
well first off, if he gets a grill, he will be doomed to social wreckining.

not only will everyone make fun of him for even having one, but because his mom (no offence) wasted money on it. its pointless, and your money can go to something better. if he really wants one though, and your willing to dish out the cash, go for it. it poses no dental problems if used correctly. it should be removed before eating or it could damage the teeth. they are only for show. also, the school might not allow it because it can cause a "choking hazard" or is against school policy, probably stated somewhere in the dress code. im might be wrong but our school has a strict code so im going by that, for lack of other information.

Physically, stainless steal is more durable than sterling silver because the molecules are "packed together" tighter. Sterling silver is going ot run you into the hundreds in terms of price, stainless steel will be cheep, but im not sure how much the customization is. its also not such a blow to your wallet when its stolen.
Reply:Punch that heathen in the face and tell him no...
Reply:That is so ghetto. Do you really want your boy growing up ghetto?
Reply:Go for steel.
Reply:Think about it as a retainer... You don't eat with it and it's fine to wear it as long as you clean the grill and the teeth EVERY morning and night
Reply:i think the "grill" thing is stupid and a waste of money. I'll just tell him...."grills isn't popular no more" ....of course...idk how that would help....but it could.
Reply:A co-worker of mine said she used to have a grill and it's bad for your teeth. Forgot the reasons, but it's the grill itself that will mess up his teeth. Unless he doesn't wear it all the time. How old is he? If he's still young, it's better to just not get it for him b/c chances are that he will lose 'em regardless.
Reply:shouldn't harm anything... wouldn't eat with it in the mouth... and silver
Reply:haha i would say no to the grill just on account of the fact that its a really not cool fad and hes probably gonna get his a** kicked , im pretty sure its not going to hurt his teeth though just so long as he takes it out regularly to brush them.
Reply:Noooo....no teeth grills. How ridiculous!
Reply:what does he wanna be??? The future Nelly?!?!?!

It's kinda dumb...

just say NO
Reply:well your son will probably have to brush his teeth when he is finished eating like braces
Reply:Just say "no." First off, many schools are refusing to permit kids to attend with "grillz." It's just another reason to provoke the kind of problems that occurred with "8-ball" jackets. Promote some responsible behavior, like volunteerism, and teach him the value of money.
Reply:Give him one of these water operated brushes and have him rinse his mouth with lysterine. Or tell him to waste his/your money on something more useful like maybe condoms for instance. Let him go for girls instead of grillz!
Reply:They're called BRACES!!! NOT TEETH GRILLS! No they don't hurt and they help straighten out your teeth and give you a better chance at having good dental hygene than just brushing crooked teeth. Obviously you've been blessed with good teeth, otherwise you'd know that they don't "cause his teeth to rot having something over them all day." They won't put anything not approved for dental use, and stainless is less expensive and still works well.
Reply:In todays world of kids getting whatever they want just by asking for it makes me disgusted. Let him earn it and pay for it himself.

Then by the time he has earned enough, it might be out of style.

Whatever a "teeth grillz" is, it doesn't sound like something that will last through the school year.
Reply:Usually grills are platinum or gold. No you cannot eat with them in your mouth.I fell it will be a waste of money for a child to have a grill cause all they would do is loose them or break them. Plus if you decide to get them' check with the school cause they might not allow that.
Reply:I think a dentist will be able to help you answer those questions better. Oral hygiene, care, and type can all be factors in what you want.
Reply:I had that a year ago. It was a removable one and I didn't eat at school because I had to brush my teeth after I ate and wash it as well and let's face it...brushing your teeth at school?...not to happen!... His teeth won't rot because of it. I wouldn't suggest him to eat with it in his mouth because:

1. it could break

2. his gums will suffer because it will get deeper into them

I think you should ask a dentist concerning what it needs to be out of so it will be durable. Check with that dentist and ask him these questions as well...he will surely give you all the answers you need to know. :)
Reply:probably stainless steel thats what the most jewelery for mouths are made of. I'm not sure about the teeth rotting it is a possibility and what if the person put's it in wrong your son will have a seriously messed up grill then for all of his life and then it will cost A LOT more to get that fixed or it may cost him to be the youngest denture wearer in history. just some things to think about
Reply:grillz are tacky don't let him get one he is 14 years old its gonna get lost and if saying no is not an option he has way to much control over you my mom NEVER would have gotten me a "grill" at the age of 14. that's outrageous and RIDICULOUS seriously they are tackier then sin and its going to end up being an embarrassment to you and your family
Reply:Okay...really sorry for the sarcastic responses previously posted. But, I have to ask why are you considering purchasing a grill for a school aged child? Even if he's in high school, really does he benefit from a grill?

If you really want to do this for your son, then I would consult your dentist and ask his/her opinion on the safety and health aspects of the grill.
Reply:Dont let him do this, he will have problems
Reply:good grades and school has nothing to do with if he needs them. its to freaky to consider getting it for him. that rediculous. you want to reward him for a job well done at school, then save up and take him away for a weekend or something. or you could save up each time you feel he deserves a reward or something and take him on a big trip to like hawii or someweres like that in the summer or christmas break. theres better ways of giving our children pats on the back then feeding into that kind of rewarding i would guess would lead to building ego up in an unhealthy manor, gang mentality. with my own son when i want to reward him for something i will buy him a new shirt or take him out to dinner of his choice. he's graduating soon and i am planning a trip to hawii for him, or pitching in to buy him a car. he has to earn at least half of the money, but i will pay for the other half. i left it up to him what he wants as a grad present. but at least its not feeding into that sort of behavior
Reply:What the hell is a grill?? is that where some guys wear a thing in their mouths that looks like they have braces? lmao..that is soooo odd!! What next....incontinence pads worn on the outside of pants...Nuts!!! Just say No...its ok to say No...when he is older and wiser he will thank you.
