Wisdom Teeth and Eating Habits -?

I had my wisdom teeth pulled on Tuesday morning, under general anesth. It is Friday now. Well, for the first few hours following the surgery, I was bleeding slightly and numb. The dr. recommended I take an Advil or aceteminophen pill to combat pain before the numbness wears off. He also prescribed me vicodin es and decadron (a steroid for swelling) and penicillin.

Well, I took the aleve once. When the numbness wore off, I had no pain. The next day I woke up, no pain no swelling and so on and so forth. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with me that i'm not feeling any pain. I'm reading about everyone who has such a problem.

The only thing I hate is not being able to eat anything I want. So, my question is: is it normal not to feel any pain or have swelling without any medication? and how long will it be until i can actually eat something again, because i am dying for a grilled chicken wrap ;) ?

Wisdom Teeth and Eating Habits -?
I got mine out on Monday and I only felt pain the rest of the day (after 9 in the morning) and a little bit the next morning but then no more pain. I think that it is normal and it just means that you deal well with pain. I had braces when I was younger and it didn't even hurt me. I know what you mean on limited food. After a few days you will be able to chew again. Just take it slowly and work your mouth into it. But right now I am still on a liquid diet, only because my stitches get in my way. Is this a problem for you too? Well good luck!! :)
Reply:If your teeth where completely erupted it was much easier to remove them. Usually the dull aching and swelling begin by the third or forth day. I would continue all meds even though you are not in pain. Advil is also an anti-inflammatory drug so with the decadron your swelling will be much less severe. I would wait a few more days to eat the chicken wrap, stick to cooler softer foods. Good luck!
Reply:The important thing is not to have milk products. Milk products leave a bacteria rich film on oral wounds, sutures and in tooth socketss, and can lead to high rates of post-opertaive wound infection and conditions like dry socket. You must have a diet which is soft, free of milk products, and nutritious. Go to http://www.oceansurgical.com.au/postoper... for some recipe ideas following wisdom tooth surgery
